Everton look set to miss out on two managerial targets with Sean Dyche heading for a new contract at Burnley while Rafa Benitez prepares for a move to Turkey, according to reports.

Albeit for different reasons, neither Dyche nor Benitez were likely to occupy the dreams of many Everton supporters after Carlo Ancelotti packed his bags and rushed off to Real Madrid last week.

Dyche may be a lot more nuanced than the gravel-voiced caricature many deem him to be but, like a certain Sam Allardyce, the 49-year-olds reputation precedes him.

Everton fans may be happy to miss out on Benitez and Dyche

Would the Burnley boss’s old-school, two-banks-of-four approach be accepted by a fanbase that grew tired of Ancelotti’s plodding, possession-heavy style?

With the Daily Mail reporting Dyche is about to sign a new contract at Turf Moor – complete with sizeable release clause – it’s a question that may never be answered.

Benitez, meanwhile, is a former Liverpool manager, one who has never hid his admiration for the club situated on the red side of Stanley Park.

If Chelsea fans never took Benitez to their heart because of his Anfield affections, how would Everton supporters feel about his arrival?

According to The Athletic, the 60-something Spaniard, who lived in the Wirral years after his 2010 departure from Liverpool, is keen on the idea of re-energising his managerial career in the familiar surrounds of England’s north west.

Everton looking at younger manager options

Everton appear to be looking at younger options, however, with Erik ten Hag, Paulo Fonseca and even Andrea Pirlo on their radar.

And, according to AS, talks are under way regarding a deal that would see Benitez take over at Fenerbahce instead.

The Istanbul-based outfit are desperate for a big-name tactician and Benitez, who has already held talks with president Ali Koc, will arrive in the Turkish capital next week for another round of negotiations.
