Everton’s continuing financial issues mean they are set to be forced into selling at least one of their top assets this summer and HITC Football understands that Jarrad Branthwaite is the most likely big-name exit with both Real Madrid and Manchester United amongst the clubs keen on him.
Sources have confirmed to HITC Football that the ongoing concerns around Financial Fair Play regulations mean that Everton need to raise more cash – even if their impending takeover by 777 Partners is approved.

We understand that 777 hope they will take over at Goodison Park this month as they await for approval from the Premier League and Football Association. They have received the all clear from the Financial Conduct Authority and have financed Everton to the tune of £150million in recent months, after their initial takeover bid was accepted.
The club were hit with a ten-point penalty early this season due to Profitability and Sustainability breaches, which they are appealing, and they have been hit with a further charge – but the club are again pushing hard that they will again fight the possible punishment.
Everton have sold before
However, the ongoing issues that Everton have with their finances, which played a big part in selling Anthony Gordon last January, means they are once again facing up to the prospect they need to sell and, although not this month, abide by the financial regulations they will likely have to cash in during the summer.
Everton’s most sellable asset is Jarrad Branthwaite, due to the fact he is classed as a homegrown. He arrived from Carlisle aged 17 in January 2020. He has actually spent most of his time away from the club on loan with successful spells at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven, but this season he has impressed hugely and become a firm part of Sean Dyche’s first-team.
And his form has caught the eye of a number of clubs. HITC Football understands that Real Madrid and Manchester United are amongst those keen on Branthwaite.
Carlo Ancelotti a fan of defender
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti was actually in charge of Everton when Branthwaite arrived at the club and he has kept a close eye on his progress and it is believed he has recommended him to his bosses, who are in the market for a new central defender this summer.
United have long been admirers of Branthwaite, but they are not alone as HITC has been told that Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle are all huge admirers and all are looking at the summer at potential central defensive additions.
If it was not Branthwaite to leave, Everton do have other assets that could be sold including England pair Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whilst Belgian star Amadou Onana could also raise substantial funds but under Profitability and Sustainability Rules, Branthwaite being homegrown would look somewhat better on the profit sheet.
