Everton were linked with a move for Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof earlier this summer, with Marco Silva thought to be keen.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been told he may have to sell reported Everton target Victor Lindelof this summer.

Mourinho wants to bring in a new centre-back, but United chiefs have told him he must sell before buying.

The Mail claim that puts Lindelof’s future in doubt, and it could be wise for Everton to move now for the Swede.

The Sun have reported how Marco Silva’s side are keen on Lindelof at £35 million, and were thinking about making a move for him earlier this summer.

Everton didn’t get a deal over the line at that stage, but with Mourinho now under pressure to sell they may have more luck by bidding again.

Everton are yet to make any defensive additions this summer, and their backline has been shaky throughout pre-season.

It means that signing a centre-back is likely to remain high on Silva’s radar, and Everton could now have a golden opportunity to get a deal for Lindelof over the line.
