Everton are closing in on Conor Coady and believe that they have seen off competition from West Ham United for the defender’s signature.
The Toffees have added one experienced centre back this summer in James Tarkowski, but they still need more at the back.
Both Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey suffered injuries against Chelsea on Saturday and will now face spells on the sidelines.
That leaves Everton a little short at the back and Frank Lampard is looking to bring a real leader to Goodison Park.
Everton are closing in on Conor Coady
Reports in recent days have linked Everton with signing Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Conor Coady and a now looks very close.
The Daily Mail report that Everton expect to complete the signing of Coady in the coming week.
It’s suggested that Everton think they have now won the race for Coady, fending off interest from West Ham United in the process.
Everton are about to beat West Ham to the signing of Lille midfielder Amadou Onana and look ready to do it again.
Everton will allegedly pay £12million plus add-ons to lure Coady to Goodison Park, with Wolves accepting that he wants to leave.

Coady wants first-team football and Everton may well be in a better position to offer that than Wolves or even West Ham right now.
Coady, 29, has found a home in the middle of Wolves’ back three in recent years, transitioning brilliantly from midfield to defence.
Hailed for his leadership abilities, Coady isn’t flashy but may have the character Lampard is seeking.
This move is also an interesting one because Coady is a lifelong Liverpool fan but will now find himself playing for rivals Everton moving forward.
The hope is that Coady can make a big impact on the Everton squad with his character, whilst beating West Ham to a second signing in a matter of days is a real boost.
