The Toffees are worried that they have not tied down the England star as he prepares to enter the final 18 months of his contract.
Everton are growing increasingly concerned about the future of Ross Barkley, HITC Sport understands.
The England star started the season well under new boss Ronald Koeman, but his form has dropped off and he was an unused substitute in the weekend’s draw with Manchester United.
Barkley was close to signing a new deal last season but that was put on hold when Roberto Martinez left the club, but now that leaves him with little over 18-months left on his new deal.
Everton’s Ross Barkley in action
HITC Sport understands Everton want the player to commit his future to the club, but reports are now suggesting that they could have to offload him if he does not commit.
Bleacher Repot UK’s Dean Jones confirms in this report that the blue half of Merseyside are worried by the situation.
Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with the 23-year-old in recent seasons, and HITC Sport understands they are amongst the clubs reportedly keeping close tabs on Barkley’s situation.
Barkley is one of a number of players within Koeman’s squad, growing concerned at their lack of playing time, including Irish ace James McCarthy.
However, chairman Bill Kenwright remains a huge fan of both players and would be loathed to see either leave anytime soon.
