Highly rated Everton youngster Miko Virtanen was on target for the club’s under-18 side this week and earned praise from coach Kevin Sheedy.
Virtanen, 18, has seen his progress at the club up until now hampered by a succession of injuries. He has been with the Toffees since he was 14.
Sheedy was pleased to be able to call on Virtanen, and delighted that he was able to get on the scoresheet.
He told the club’s official website: “I was pleased for Miko to score. He’s had a lot of injuries and this is the first time he has been fully fit since last season.”
Virtanen is a Finnish youth international and will be hoping he can build on his midweek strike.
Everton will need to manage him sensibly considering his fitness issues, but while he is fit they need to get more out of him to learn more about what he can contribute and help him make up for lost time.
