Sam Allardyce wants a clear out at Everton, while Bill Kenwright suggests he is prepared to give their struggling players another chance.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright and Sam Allardyce could be on a collison course over transfers, if their comments to the Liverpool Echo are anything to go by.

Allardyce has already suggested that he will be ruthless in the transfer market, with as many as 13 departures possible at Goodison Park in the summer.

Allardyce wants to offload many of Everton’s fringe players, in the hope that he can trim his squad for next term.

The Toffees boss said to the Liverpool Echo: “There’s no doubt that at 38 professionals it’s too many.

“We need to reduce that number of players to 25, 26 or 27 and try and get better quality rather than quantity.”

However, Kenwright’s comments last night, seem to contradict the manager’s.

While Allardyce wants to be ruthless with his fringe players, in order to keep numbers down, Kenwright is prepared to offer chances to some of Everton’s struggling men.

The likes of Davy Klaassen and Sandro have struggled this season, but Kenwright has promised that they will stay at Goodison Park next term.

“Some of them have had spectacular success, like England’s No1 goalkeeper, Michael Keane is doing well and others have found the transition tough but people like Davy Klaassen, Sandro, Nikola Vlasic they’ve come here to give their all, they’re still good players and they’ll still be Everton players next season,” he said.

If the likes of Sandro and Klaassen were not on Allardyce’s list of players to sell then it is very difficult to see who he is picking to depart to get the numbers down.

Allardyce clearly is feeling more ruthless than Kenwright, and if the Everton boss remains in charge, the latter’s promise could be hard to keep.
