With Romelu Lukaku set to depart Goodison Park, Joshua King has reportedly been identified as a rather underwhelming potential replacement.
Everton have spent huge money this summer, bringing in the likes of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen, but their most important signing could well be still to come.
Romelu Lukaku continues to be linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with the BBC claiming Manchester United have agreed a £75million fee.
The Belgium international has been Everton’s top scorer in each season since arriving from Chelsea in 2013 and scored 25 Premier League goals last term.
And so recruiting a replacement for Lukaku is now key to the Toffees’ success, with both Wayne Rooney and Olivier Giroud touted as options in The Sun.
There is an emotional pull towards Rooney, while Giroud has a decent scoring record, but another name that has been mentioned would represent a rather more considerable, if youthful risk.
Bournemouth’s Joshua King enjoyed a fine campaign last time out as he netted 16 times in the top flight, firing his side to an incredible top-half finish, and the Mirror believe Everton are interested.
However, King’s earlier record is somewhat less impressive. He scored six goals in his only previous Premier League campaign, while his goal tallies in the Championship have been even more meagre.
Although the Norway international can point to his earlier deployment on the wing, those are still underwhelming figures.
He certainly does not look ready to replace a talismanic, proven forward such as Lukaku.
