Everton cannot let West Ham sign Olivier Giroud in January

Everton have attempted to sign Olivier Giroud in the past and should be alerted by the links with their Premier League rivals.

It was reported by the Liverpool Echo in December last year that Olivier Giroud rejected the chance to leave Arsenal and join Everton in the previous window.

Giroud would ultimately leave the Emirates, but it would be to make the move to Chelsea in the most recent January window. It now appears however, that his future could soon be a major talking point once again.

The Daily Mirror reported this week that West Ham are monitoring the Frenchman’s situation at Stamford Bridge in case he becomes available once again.

And should the Hammers find out that the World Cup winner could be allowed to leave in the new year, then Everton must seriously consider getting back in the race themselves.

Marco Silva’s men have made a promising start to this season, and a couple of their attacking players have been extremely impressive, with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison scoring four goals each in the top flight.

But Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have found the back of the net on just one occasion each, and it appears that the Toffees may need to potentially prioritise signing a new striker in January.

Giroud’s ability to create should allow the likes of Sigurdsson and Richarlison to continue to build their goals tally. He has provided four assists in the league this term, and he reached double figures for goals in all five of his full seasons with the Gunners.

It is a return that should certainly alert Everton to his situation once again and leave Silva determined to ensure that they beat West Ham to a deal if Chelsea do decide to cash in.
