Everton could break an odd 78-year-old record when they face Crystal Palace on Friday.

Everton’s task against Crystal Palace on Friday night will be to get back on track following losses to Norwich and Bournemouth. However, as reported by Daily Post North Wales, there is a bizarre subplot.

The Toffees could also break a 78-year record on Friday night if they fail to win 2-0.

As far as odd statistics go this is certainly up there, as Everton author and statistician Steve Johnson has revealed that it has now been 78 long games since the club won a league game 2-0.

Their last success by this scoreline in the Premier League came against West Bromwich Albion just over two years to the day back in September 2014.

They have managed to find success in cup competitions with that scoreline, most notably against Chelsea in last season’s FA Cup, but they have had no such luck in the league.

The 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth last time out saw them equal their club-record run without a 2-0 victory, with the last 78-game sequence coming between September 1936 and May 1938.

Of course the way in which Everton win will not matter one bit to manager Ronald Koeman, so long as his side get the job done. But if they fail to win by two goals to nil, they will have set a new and most bizarre of club records.
