Marcel Brands has decided to leave Everton having seemingly suffered a difference of opinion over a number of things – including Denzel Dumfries.
Everton confirmed late on Sunday that Brands has left Goodison Park after three-and-a-half years with the club.
The Dutchman was seen as a huge capture for Everton when he left PSV Eindhoven, but it just hasn’t worked for Brands.
The Liverpool Echo now note that Brands was having difficulties with both Farhad Moshiri and Rafael Benitez.
For one, Brands didn’t even want Benitez in the first place, preferring a more expansive coach.
It’s also noted that Brands wanted to sign right back Denzel Dumfries from PSV. However, Benitez pushed back and refused to have him at Everton.
Everton missed out on Dumfries deal despite Brands push
It looked for a while like Dumfries would be making the same move as Brands, leaving PSV for Everton.

Everton needed another right back with Seamus Coleman well into his 30’s. Dumfries was seen as the main man with Brands leading the pursuit.
Dumfries excelled at Euro 2020. His marauding displays for the Netherlands saw Ally McCoist brand him ‘amazing to watch’.
In the end, Everton missed out as Inter Milan swooped in to sign Dumfries.
With Brands and Benitez clearly on different pages, the Dutchman has chosen to leave Everton.
Dumfries hasn’t really set the world alight at Inter, but with Coleman struggling, a right back will be needed at Everton soon.
