Everton defender Luke Garbutt has not made a Premier League appearance this season.
Everton currently have one of the largest first-team squads in the Premier League, with some players not even registered to play league matches.
Garbutt is one of the players who Everton did not see fit to include in their squad list for the campaign, and the left-back’s chances of breaking through at Goodison Park now look limited.
Garbutt can no longer be considered an exciting prospect, as he is 24-years-old.
It has reached the stage where the left-back simply needs to go out and play regularly, and Allardyce’s comments suggest that a January exit could be on the cards.
“The squad is 32 players,” Allardyce said. “It’s big, massive. Only 25 can be registered. Within those 32 there’s a considerable amount of young talent which we’ll have to make a decision on in January.
“Would it be an opportunity for a loan or are they valuable to the first team squad? We may have that decision in January on a week-to-week basis because there’s other actions from other football clubs outside of Everton.”
Garbutt was once considered one of Everton’s brightest youngsters, but he has failed to live up to his potential.
The left-back has endured a series of failed loan moves to clubs across the Football League, and has been unable to break into the Toffees’ first-team this season.
Despite Garbutt’s recent struggles, Everton are likely to have lots of interest in the full-back, if they do put him up for sale in the new year.
