The Everton veteran is out of contract at Goodison next month.
Marco Silva has intimated to The Echo that releasing Phil Jagielka is a possibility.
Jagielka, who turns 37 in August, is out of contract at Everton next month.
His short-term future has been the subject of debate as of late.
According to The Echo, Silva wants 34-year-old Leighton Baines to stay at Goodison Park beyond the end of his contract this summer.
But things seem slightly more ominous for the veteran centre-back, who joined the Toffees under David Moyes way back in 2007.
Kurt Zouma has impressed on Merseyside since joining on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
And the Portuguese boss admitted that any permanent deal for the French centre-back could ‘impact’ Jagielka in a negative way.
“It could have an impact,” he told The Echo. “We are talking with Jags and, like always, being really clear and honest with him – not just because it’s Jags – but it is a special situation, we have to be honest.
“We are speaking with him and we will keep speaking with him over the next few days.”
If we’re honest, Everton should probably sever ties with Jagielka – on £50,000 per week [Spotrac] – no matter what happens with Zouma.
He has been a fantastic servant, but he has already shown signs of decline and the truth is that Silva can’t rely on a 37-year-old central defender next season.
