Ademola Lookman hasn’t started a Premier League game for Everton this season.
Marco Silva has suggested to The Liverpool Echo that Ademola Lookman probably should have started a Premier League game for Everton by now.
The 21-year-old winger has eight league appearances under his belt for Silva this season, but all of them have been as a substitute.
Pressure is mounting on the Everton manager to start Lookman soon after a series of glittering cameos in recent weeks.
Lookman, signed for £11 million [BBC Sport] by former Toffees boss Ronald Koeman almost two years, impressed off the bench again at Anfield last week.
And Silva concedes that maybe he should’ve handed him a start already.
“100%, he’s pushing really hard,” he told The Liverpool Echo. “Maybe he already deserved a place in the starting XI, but it’s football and I’m here to make decisions.
“He did very well in 30 minutes against Liverpool and he’s more than ready to start and is a possibility.”
The good news is that Silva is humble enough to admit – or at least suggest – that he’s made a mistake, which is good news for the former Charlton winger.
The Goodison Park side host Newcastle on Merseyside tonight and it wouldn’t be a major shock if the youngster is finally given a starting berth.
He has certainly earned it.
