Everton were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United, with Marco Silva’s side falling to defeat at Old Trafford.
Everton went in 1-0 behind at the break at Old Trafford yesterday, with a penalty separating the two sides.
Anthony Martial appeared to go down easily under a challenge from Idrissa Gueye, when the Everton man actually won the ball, but Jon Moss still pointed to the spot.
And the ease with which United were awarded a spot kick frustrated the Everton boss.
He said: “I told the players at half-time it was not a fair result. When the game is balanced in the first 20-25 minutes, the penalty starts to put them ahead in the match and more comfortable.
“That moment, it was no penalty. It was difficult for us. That moment makes it easy for our opponents. You are more exposed then because you have to take more risks. They scored a fantastic goal but we had a good chance to score at 2-1.”
United’s second goal in the match was far less controversial, as Martial curled home a fine finish from long-range.
Everton did hit back with a penalty of their own, with Gylfi Sigurdsson converting from the spot, but they failed to get any points from the contest.
The Toffees couldn’t break down a resilient United backline again, as they slipped to defeat.
Everton are now in ninth place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Brighton & Hove Albion.
