Everton got past a scare to make it through to the third round of the Carabao Cup last night.

Everton boss Marco Silva has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of his side’s Carabao Cup match against Lincoln City, that he stressed the importance of staying calm to his team at half-time yesterday.

Everton went into the break with the scores locked at 1-1, after what was a difficult first half at Sincil Bank.

Everton had gone behind before they had even touched the ball, when Harry Anderson smashed Lincoln in front.

At that point it looked like Everton could be on the wrong side of an upset, but Lucas Digne’s brilliant free-kick did at least send the Toffees in level.

And Silva revealed: “I said to our players at half time that we have to keep our calm. Be patient also, play fast and I tried to organise them with the ball and after that put speed in our game.

“We did that and in some moments played really well.”

Everton went on to progress, after showing their quality in the second half.

The Toffees ended up winning 4-2, but they had to battle past their League One opponents.

Gylfi Sigurdsson put Everton in front from the penalty spot in the second half, but Bruno Andrade levelled with a great strike for the stubborn hosts.

It then fell to Alex Iwobi and Richarlison to score late goals for Everton to ensure that they made it through to the next round.
