Everton defender Mason Holgate impressed as Marco Silva’s side beat Sheffield Wednesday last night.

Holgate was given the chance to start in Everton’s defence, when they took on Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup yesterday, and the youngster did well.
Holgate helped Everton keep a clean sheet, as the Toffees picked up a 2-0 victory at Hillsborough.
The England youth international definitely did his chances of playing more regularly at Everton no harm, as Silva admits he was impressed by the concentration levels that the 22-year-old showed.
“Mason had a good game also which was important,” he said.
“He finished the game with some physical difficulties but he did well and showed that quality that I know he has but more important, he showed the focus he needs to.”
Holgate came in for Michael Keane last night in Everton’s starting line-up, and played alongside Yerry Mina in defence.

The partnership seemed to work well, although they could come up against tougher tests in the Premier League.
Everton’s defence certainly hasn’t looked particularly robust in recent weeks, so there could be an opening for Holgate if he continues to impress Silva.
The Toffees’ next match comes against Manchester City at Goodison Park.
