The Chelsea starlet is set to continue his career elsewhere – but will he choose RB Leipzig over Everton?
From an outside perspective, Everton would appear an excellent fit for Chelsea outcast Dominic Solanke, as reported by the Daily Mail. After all, Romelu Lukaku recovered from being discarded by The Blues to lead the race for the Premier League Golden Boot at Goodison Park.
Ronald Koeman, meanwhile, is not a manager afraid to put his faith in young players as the likes of Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who recently broke his top flight duck, will attest.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte admitted that the England youth striker, who appeared certain to end the club’s long wait for an academy star to make waves in the first team, has his heart set on leaving Stamford Bridge.
It’s now almost three years since he made his one and only appearance Chelsea colours.
A loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland offered further glimpses of his potential but, as the publication claims, top flight, first-team football is now the 19-year-old’s primary concern with Everton mulling over a move when his contract expires at the end of the season – though they may have to pay a development fee of up to £8 million.
However, Toffees fans must be concerned with Mail’s claims that Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig have recently made contact.
The fizzy drink-fuelled outfit have emerged as the nearest challengers to Bayern Munich’s domestic dominance and, as it stands, will be playing Champions League football next season while Everton face potential trips to Ukraine and Belgium in the Europa League.
And although Ralf Hassenhutl’s nouveau-riche newcomers have risen through the divisions thanks to huge financial backing, they have a plan in place to build a team around talented, ambitious young players like Timo Werner (below), Emil Forsberg and former Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke.
Solanke, who is reported to prefer a club with a genuine chance of challenging for titles, would be joining players of a similar age and mind-set at a club renowned for its ability to nurture potential.
For all of Everton’s history and tradition, a club formed in 2009 could be Solanke’s best route to stardom.
