Everton have omitted midfielder Muhamed Besic from their Premier League squad after he failed to secure a move away over the summer.
The Toffees named their 25-man Premier League squad on Tuesday, and Carlo Ancelotti ultimately had some tough decisions to make.
Two senior players were axed, with Yannick Bolasie one of them having seen a move to Middlesbrough fall through on Friday evening.
The other one was Besic, as the Bosnian international was left out of the squad and now faces being sat on the sidelines until the January transfer window opens.
Besic at least doesn’t have to wait all that long given that the summer window only just ended, but it isn’t exactly ideal for him to be sat around doing nothing at Everton.
The 28-year-old had a frustrating campaign last season too, playing just 13 games on loan at Sheffield United before being sent back to Everton, where is now unwanted.
The Liverpool Echo reported on international deadline day that Rangers wanted to sign Besic, but no move to Ibrox materialised as they landed Bongani Zungu instead.
Rangers may be able to land Besic in 2021, but Zungu’s move means Besic’s best chance of an Everton escape route may have passed – and he now needs to try and tee up a January move over the coming weeks and months.
