Phil Neville told Amazon Prime that Liverpool are ‘struggling’ because their bench ‘doesn’t look as strong’ regarding this season’s title race.

The former England defender feels Everton are ‘up there’ in the race, Tottenham and Chelsea have ‘slipped up’, whilst his old club Manchester United have a chance because of the lack of squad depth at Liverpool.

Liverpool currently sit top of the tree in the Premier League table and they can open up a five point lead on second-place if they beat Newcastle today.

Nonetheless, Neville shared his thoughts on the Premier League title race and how no-one is really pushing Liverpool.

“Liverpool are out in front and rightly so,” said Neville. “I think they are the best team in the country, at the moment. But there is no other team grasping to challenge Liverpool.

“You look at Chelsea have slipped up. Tottenham have slipped up recently. Everton are up there, who are in really good form. Manchester City are climbing.

“Manchester United are in this title race if they keep this level of form. When you look at the squad and the benches that tells you they have the power to be in a title race.

“Look at Liverpool, they are struggling. Their bench doesn’t look as strong as it has in the past. Manchester City are struggling with injuries.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

It’s been quite clear that Liverpool haven’t been at their strongest squad-wise yet they still managed to get to the top of the tree by Christmas.

Surely their squad will only get stronger as players return from injury and they also have the chance to dip into the January market.

There’s no doubt that Jurgen Klopp’s men are favourites, and during this crazy season, this is a brilliant chance for the unfancied side to shock the world.
