According to a report in the Daily Star (print edition, page 44, Sunday, June 10, 2018), Everton are the favourites to sign Ben Gibson from Middlesbrough this summer.

Everton have been linked with the powerful centre-back for some time, and are reportedly leading the race to land him in the coming weeks.

Boro value Gibson at £25 million, according to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, and for that money Everton may just be better off looking elsewhere.

Gibson has been a solid option at Boro in recent years, at both Premier League and Championship level.

However, he is hardly the type of player who would push Everton on to the next level.

Indeed, there has to be question marks over whether Gibson is any better than Michael Keane, who struggled at Goodison Park over the past campaign.

And The Toffees would be better off investing slightly more money to land a more proven target than Gibson this summer.
