Leicester City are fighting a battle to keep hold of Kasper Schmeichel this summer, according to The Mirror.

Despite handing the Premier League title winner a £100,000 per week contract, Schmeichel is reportedly tempted to move on, feeling that at 30-years-old, the time is right.

Everton are listed in the report as one five top teams interested in his signature, along with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Schmeichel has already played for Manchester City earlier in his career, before dropping down the divisions and later finding his way back to the top flight.

City could be in the market for a goalkeeper with question marks over Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo, but Liverpool and Arsenal do not need another right now.

Manchester United would only need Schmeichel if David de Gea moves on, a situation which is unclear.

Everton do need a goalkeeper, with Joel Robles failing to convince since stepping in for the injured Maarten Stelekenburg.

Manchester City will be a threat to Everton’s aims, yet Everton are arguably better placed.

They are long term admirers of Schmeichel, and only shelved interest last summer after an agreement to do so after recruitment Steve Walsh left Leicester for Everton, with it decided the Toffees would not pursue Foxes players for a ‘specified period’ from last June, The Guardian reported.

Walsh did not sign Schmeichel for Leicester, yet is well aware of his talent, watching on thrilled as the Dane delivered a league title for the club last season.

Manchester City will be Everton’s biggest threat for Schmeichel’s signature, but Walsh can be the deciding factor.

He is helping Everton to build a side capable of challenging for top honours, and can try to help convince Schmeichel he would be joining the ‘next Leicester City’.

The Toffees have made impressive strides under Ronald Koeman this season. Adding experienced winners like Schmeichel can help them get to the next level.
