Everton interest in Joshua King is the last thing Tottenham need.

Everton are showing interest in Bournemouth striker Joshua King, according to The Mirror, threatening Tottenham’s hopes of doing a deal.

The Telegraph had linked Spurs with a move for King over the weekend, but reported that Bournemouth wanted a whopping £30 million.

This high price is one Tottenham would have fancied being able to knock down – but Everton’s interest backs Spurs chairman Daniel Levy into a corner.

Last summer Tottenham paid over the odds for Moussa Sissoko, £30 million for the Newcastle midfielder.

They were pushed into paying so much because Everton had already agreed to pay the same price for the French international.

The Toffees have been spending big all summer, splashing out on the likes of Davy Klaasen and Michael Keane, in addition to bargain buys Sandro and Henry Onyekuru.

They have the capability to pay the £30 million Bournemouth want for King, and with the potential of a bidding war able to escalate, there is now no reason for the Cherries to drop their price tag at Tottenham’s demands.

Knowing that Everton could be willing to meet Bournemouth’s demands could either see Tottenham walk away, or pay up.

Getting King on the cheap suddenly looks very unlikely.
