The Toffees attacker is one of the most highly rated prospects at the Goodison Park academy.

A number of Everton fans have urged Marco Silva to include Goodison Park academy prodigy Anthony Gordon in the Toffees first team after yet another superb display, this time away at Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy (Liverpool Echo).

The 18-year-old opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, picking up the ball just inside the final third and, after initially appearing to backtrack, proceeded to weave and slalom his way through a crowd of Stags defenders before unleashing a curling effort into the back of the net.

Gordon played a key role in Everton’s Premier League 2 title victory last season and has has very much picked up from where he left off, the England Under-18 international scoring both goals for Everton’s Under-23s in their 2-2 draw with Arsenal Under-23s on Friday.

Given how talented Gordon is and how he is showing just how good he is on the pitch time and time again, the calls from Evertonians regarding giving him a chance in the first team are growing louder by the day:

After Beni Baningime was shown a second yellow card on 70 minutes for a late challenge on Omari Sterling-James, Everton had to try and hang on with 10 men but they eventually buckled under pressure as Sterling-James sent a low drive past Harry Tyrer for the hosts’ equaliser.

Both sides took a point from the normal time draw, with an extra point awarded to the penalty shootout winners, and the Toffees did so with successful spot kicks from Antony Evans, Matthew Foulds, Harry Charsley and Nathangelo Markelo, while Tyrer saved from Otis Khan’s spotkick and Sterling-James blazed his effort over the bar.
