Everton, West Brom, Huddersfield and Manchester United stars feature among the most impressive new signings over the Premier League opening weekend.
Well the 2017/18 Premier League season is officially up and running and all 20 teams from England’s top tier have now played their first game, with varying success.
There has been lots of business in the division over the summer and here HITC picks out the five new signings who impressed the most on the opening weekend.
Ahmed Hegazy of West Bromwich Albion.
Ahmed Hegazy
One of only two new first team additions for West Bromwich Albion so far this window, the loanee defender from Al Ahly could not have had much of a better debut.
In typical Tony Pulis fashion, the Baggies edged a 1-0 win at home against Bournemouth in which Hegazy scored a towering header and was dominant at the back to secure a clean-sheet as well.
Romelu Lukaku
Arrived at Manchester United from Everton this summer and took just 33 minutes on his league debut to find the back of the net, smashing it past Joe Hart in the West Ham United goal.
In the second half Lukaku doubled his tally with a well taken header to instantly announce his arrival at Old Trafford and continue his brilliant scoring form.
Nemanja Matic
Another new face at Man United now, Matic joined from Chelsea and was the same commanding presence in midfield that helped win him the title at Stamford Bridge in 2015 and 2017.
Now back under the guidance of former Blues manager Jose Mourinho, the Serbian gave an all action display against the Hammers that the East London side simply could not deal with.
Steve Mounie
One of the big surprises of the weekend was newly promoted Huddersfield Town’s dominant 3-0 away victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Boss David Wagner was quick to praise club record signing Mounie after the game and it’s easy to see why when the 22-year-old bagged a brace on his debut to get the Terriers off to the perfect start.
Wayne Rooney of Everton celebrates with teammates after scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match against Stoke City.
Wayne Rooney
A familiar face in the English top flight, but it had been 13 years since Liverpool-born Rooney had been seen in an Everton shirt after completing a move back to his boyhood club this summer.
And the 31-year-old rolled back the years to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Stoke City to get the Goodison Park faithful immediately singing his name again.
