Everton loanee Mason Holgate was superb as West Bromwich Albion came agonisingly close to reaching the Championship play-off final.

A number of Everton and West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to react to Mason Holgate’s performance in the second-leg of the Championship play-off semi-final and discuss what the defender’s future may look like.
The Baggies produced a fantastic effort to take Aston Villa to penalties on Tuesday. They went into the second-leg 2-1 down after the first meeting, but levelled the tie within half an hour when Holgate’s throw-in was headed home by Craig Dawson.
But Chris Brunt’s red card in the latter stages of the 90 minutes left Jimmy Shan’s men playing for penalties. And unfortunately, that strategy did not pay off as Villa won 4-3 in the shootout.
Holgate may have had the first spot-kick saved by Jed Steer, but that has not stopped both West Brom and Everton supporters lauding the youngster’s performance in the game.

The 22-year-old has been an incredibly impressive signing for the Baggies, and there are plenty of fans who are hoping that he could potentially stay beyond this season. He dealt extremely well with Anwar El Ghazi at the Hawthorns and put some of the substitutes to shame with his energy over 120 minutes.
However, judging by what some of the Toffees fans made of his display, it may not be a huge surprise if Marco Silva decides to keep Holgate at Goodison Park from next year.

Here is what some of the Everton and West Brom fans were saying about Holgate’s display and future…
