Fenerbahce have confirmed an “agreement” to sign Diego Rossi on the club’s official Twitter page despite the Major League Soccer star being linked with a £10 million move to Everton or Tottenham Hotspur.

Don’t call it a retirement league.

Since the 2017/18 season, 11 players have left the MLS for fees in excess of £8 million.

Every single one, you may be interested to know, was under the age of 26 when they left the US for a fresh start.

Rossi’s impending move to Istanbul, then, is just the continuation of a growing trend – the latest in a long line of exciting youngsters moving to Europe after making a name for themselves on the other side of the Atlantic.

Everton and Tottenham to miss out on Diego Rossi

According to The Telegraph, Rafa Benitez’s Everton and Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs had both expressed an interest in the £10 million-rated Rossi just weeks before the jet-heeled Uruguayan was named MLS player of the year.

Rossi contributed 18 goals and four assists in 26 games last season.

And, if you asked his LAFC teammate Carlos Vela, it was only a matter of time before Rossi was leaving the land of stars, stripes and soccer behind.

However, it’s understood the free-scoring winger is on his way to Turkey instead.

Fenerbahce have confirmed an “agreement in principle”, with Rossi expected to undergo a medical before the transfer deadline.
