John Stones admits frustrations at Manchester City… and has provoked a strong response.

John Stones is set to pick up his first Premier League title winner’s medal this season, but is not entirely happy.

After getting injured earlier in the season he returned to find his place at Manchester City taken by new signing Aymeric Laporte, and he has started just two of the last nine matches.

Stones yesterday admitted his frustration with the situation, with the England centre-back telling SkySports, “It’s difficult. Every player wants to play week-in, week-out. I’ve had games here and there, I’ve been fighting and that’s all you can do.”

Stones signed for Manchester City from Everton in 2016 for £47.5 million.

His comments caused a mixed response from Everton fans, as illustrated below with these two snapshots…

But Everton supporters were not the only ones to react to Stones’ comments, with Tottenham Hotspur supporters hoping the centre-back could suddenly be on the market.

Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle told Daily Mail at the weekend that he thought Stones would be a good replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

He said: “Pep Guardiola also has Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte and Vincent Kompany to pick from so we’ll have to see how it works out for John. Perhaps Tottenham would be interested if they are unable to keep Toby Alderweireld?”

Rather surprisingly there were Liverpool fans too who expressed their hope that Stones could hit the market.

The Reds have two huge matches against City to come in the Champions League quarter-finals.

When Stones reflects he should be positive about how this season has gone at City, despite the fresh challenge from Aymeric Laporte.

The kind comments from opposition fans shows how highly he is regarded, and at just 23-years-old, he has a lot of room to get even better.

If Stones was to be made available there would be no shortage of suitors, but it could be a decision he would go onto regret if City repeat this year’s Premier League dominance.
