Everton have been joined by Liverpool in their pursuit of Sheffield United talent David Brooks, according to reports this week.
The speculation proceeds an incredible week for the 20-year-old, in which he was named man of the match as the Blades defeated city rivals Sheffield Wednesday and received his first Wales call up – despite being named player of the 2017 Toulon Tournament while playing for England.
But is the latter actually something of which Sheffield United should be wary, given the identity of some of his international colleagues and the clubs for which they currently play?
Everton’s Ashley Williams captains the Dragons, whose squad also contains Danny Ward and Ben Woodburn, both of Liverpool. It’s unlikely, therefore, that Brooks will return to Bramall Lane without a few words in his ear.
However, we may have to wait until the end of the season to see which of the two clubs, if any, the Warrington-born winger chooses to go with, after it was reported by Teamtalk that ‘the ambition of Sheffield United is now just to keep him until then’.
