Manchester City went to France on Tuesday night to take on Lyon in the Champions League, and were looking for three points to sent them into the next round of the competition – and some revenge having lost to Lyon in September.

Having thrashed West Ham United 4-0 on Saturday, many expected City to be in similarly scintillating form, but they were pushed all the way by Lyon.

After squandering a number of first half chances, Lyon did take a second half lead when Maxwel Cornet cut in from the right and bent a left-footed strike beyond Ederson and into the back of the net, only for Aymeric Laporte to quickly equalise.

Cornet restored Lyon’s lead late on, but City again hit back, with Sergio Aguero glancing home a headed equaliser, meaning the two teams shared the points and remain in the box seat to qualify for the knockout stages.

Even with City’s vaunted line-up, they were somewhat overshadowed by some Lyon stars, with Tanguy Ndombele starring in the Lyon midfield with an outstanding performance.

The Mirror have reported that Everton – as well as Liverpool – are keen on Ndombele, and his exceptional display against City was seen by a host of fans on Merseyside.

Everton fans suggested that Ndombele was ‘class’ but the Toffees had little to no chance of signing him, believing that he will have better options in the market and is simply out of Everton’s league.

Liverpool supporters were also impressed, calling Ndombele ‘monstrous’, ‘sensational’ and ‘a beast’, urging the club to move in order to sign the French midfielder in 2019 ahead of their city rivals.
