Hull City’s Oumar Niasse celebrates scoring their second goal
Hull City gave their chances of Premier League survival a major boost on Wednesday evening, as they beat Middlesbrough 4-2 at the KCOM Stadium.
Having beaten West Ham 2-1 at home on Saturday afternoon, the Tigers were looking for a second straight home win as they took on Middlesbrough – and their impressive form at the KCOM Stadium under Marco Silva continued.
Alvaro Negredo put Boro in front early on, sliding home Adama Traore’s shot at the back post, but Lazar Markovic equalised for Hull by scrambling home from close range.
Everton loanee Oumar Niasse then struck Hull in front by driving Abel Hernandez’s flick-on into the net, and Hernandez then added a third by tapping in from close-range from Kamil Grosicki’s cross.
Marten de Roon pulled one back for Middlesbrough before half time, but Hull sealed a 4-2 victory with Harry Maguire placing a superb header into the top corner of the net.
Hull have now moved out of the relegation zone, and lie two points clear of 18th placed Swansea City, with just seven games left to play.
Middlesbrough’s Victor Valdes in action with Hull City’s Oumar Niasse
Everton-owned striker Niasse has enjoyed a huge impact since his January loan move to the KCOM Stadium, as his goal against Middlesbrough was his fifth goal in 12 appearances for the Tigers.
Hull fans took to Twitter during and after the game to state that they want to see the Senegalese international sign a permanent deal, and can’t understand why Everton didn’t even give him one appearance this season.
Meanwhile, Everton fans questioned why manager Ronald Koeman froze Niasse out, especially with Arouna Kone on the bench against Manchester United on Tuesday night, criticising the Dutchman for a ‘shocking call of judgement’.
