Everton were far superior to West Ham United, with Wayne Rooney playing a key role.

Wayne Rooney of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Toffees ace Wayne Rooney spoke exclusively to the club’s official website in the aftermath of his side’s fine 4-0 victory over West Ham last night, and opened up on the mental challenge he faced when lining up to take the penalty that he missed, before eventually scoring.

The 32-year-old joined Everton from Manchester United in the summer, and his form has actually been rather impressive, despite his side’s struggles, both domestically and on the continent.

Rooney has scored eight goals in 16 outings in all competitions for the Blues so far this term, and his display against the hapless Hammers last night was reminiscent of those that he produced on a regular basis during his best years at Old Trafford.

England’s record goalscorer spoke to reporters after the game, and shared why it was so difficult taking a penalty against Joe Hart last night, what with the pairs’ history together with the Three Lions, as quoted by EvertonFC.com:

“I have practiced many penalties against Harty. I knew that he knew what way I was going so I thought, ‘Do I change, or do I stick with the way I’m going?’ I stuck with it but I still backed myself to beat him, he made a good save and thankfully it fell back to me. I think it was an important goal, we relaxed after that goal, getting my second goal as well.”

Next up for Everton is a home game against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and a victory really would signal the beginning of their resurgence, with Sam Allardyce now at the helm, and Rooney firing on all cylinders.
