Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly in contention to sign the midfielder before he joined Everton last summer.
Everton ace Andre Gomes was in imperious form against West Ham yesterday, and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be regretting the fact that he did not bring there Portuguese ace to north London last summer.
Spurs wanted to sign the 25-year-old before the start of the season, according to a report from the Sun, before he eventually left Barcelona for Everton on a season-long loan.
Gomes’s loan deal expires in the summer, however, so all is not yet lost for Tottenham, and they could of course still sign him, but how Pochetitno could have done with him this season, especially with Mousa Dembele having left for China.
The Barcelona-owned star seems to move about the pitch with ease, without even breaking sweat, and he possesses attributes that Spurs have sometimes lacked in the middle of park this season – none more so than his composure when in possession of the football.
The La Liga giants want somewhere between €25-30 million (£21.5-25.8 million) for Gomes, according to Spanish media outlet AS, and Tottenham should not hesitate to pay that for the Portugal international.
As things stand, however, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be ruing his decision not to push harder for Gomes last summer.
