Eric Dier has claimed that Harry Kane has ‘consistently’ been doubted at Tottenham ever since he joined the club, as he told Sky Sports.
The England captain is yet to score in the Premier League this season for Spurs, despite being the Golden Boot winner last time out.
It doesn’t help that Kane didn’t manage to get a pre-season under his belt, participating in the Euros played its part, but make your mind up about the rest.
Either way, Kane is looking like the shadow of the player that was contributing to a goal or an assist nearly every game under Jose Mourinho.
But all of that doesn’t bother or worry Dier because he suggested that he has seen it all before.
“I don’t know when he is going to score,” said Dier. “But I’m not really worried about him. I know he will and I know he will score a lot.
“So, I am not too worried about Harry. Ever since I have been at Tottenham people have consistently tried to doubt him.
“Even at the Euros, he didn’t score for like the first two games and people were questioning him or even whether he should be in the team, which was just difficult to even understand.”
Write off Kane at your peril because it won’t be a surprise if he is challenging the likes of Mo Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jamie Vardy for that top goalscorers spot at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old has actually proven before that he can end the season in a very, very strong fashion, but also start it in a sluggish way.
It’s just a case of Kane netting that first goal in the Premier League and then the rest will flow.
Spoiling the party-like atmosphere at Newcastle United on Sunday would be a great start, because whilst the mood is all rosy in the North East, it needs to be remembered that Steve Bruce’s side are yet to win a game this season.
