Harry Kane has told the ITV Football Show Podcast that he has ‘always fancied’ himself as a goalkeeper even when he was younger.
In 2014, during Tottenham’s Europa League tie against Asteras Tripolis, Kane found himself standing in between the sticks with five minutes left when Hugo Lloris had been sent off and they had used all their subs.
It was turning out to be an amazing night for the Englishman because he had just netted a hat-trick, but he then ended up spilling a shot into the back of the net and the rest is history.
Kane shared that he has always thought that he could take on the art of goalkeeping, as he shared that night against the Greek side to ITV presenter Mark Pougatch and his former Spurs teammate Andros Townsend.
“Do you know what I always fancied myself as a goalie,” said Kane. “Even when I was younger I had spells in goal.
“I always thought about it that if I get the chance then I want to have a chance in goal. And then obviously I scored my first hat-trick for Spurs, confidence was high and Hugo gets sent off with five minutes to go.
“I think it’s perfect with five minutes. I got the armband as well. Purple goalie shirt. Armband. There is a good picture of captains armband, hat-trick ball, goalie gloves and everything. Yes, I was honestly devastated when I let that goal in. I scored a hat-trick but that was out of the window. To concede as I did was so embarrassing. I couldn’t give the keepers stick after that.”

Kane was dubbed a one-season wonder when he first broke onto the scene in the Premier League and it’s fair to say that he has shut those critics up.
But maybe those critics were perhaps referring to his goalkeeping and not his goalscoring!
Either way, Kane has shown that he is a man of many talents because the deadly finisher has now shown he has an eye for a pass too, as he currently tops the assists charts in the Premier League this season.
