Gareth Southgate has announced his 25-man England squad for upcoming games with Scotland and France.

Wayne Rooney has once again been left out having started just 15 Premier League matches for Manchester United this season, while Everton’s Ross Barkley and Michael Keane of Burnley have not been included due to injury.

However, there have been a few inclusions that caused a bit of a stir. Tottenham Hotspur fans are delighted to see Kieran Trippier in the squad for the first time to take their total number of players named to five.

Meanwhile, Aaron Cresswell has been given an opportunity as one of two left-backs alongside Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand – with Spurs star Danny Rose another absent with an injury.

It is the first time Cresswell has been included in a Three Lions squad since he picked up his one and only cap for the nation to date in November last year.

After a disappointing season all round for the Hammers, however, even some of their supporters are surprised by the 27-year-old’s call-up.
