Martin Tyler has shared that Tottenham were so flat in the second half against Chelsea on Sunday that ‘even the booing’ of Marcos Alonso stopped midway through the second half, as he told Sky Sports (19/09/21 at 6:00 pm).

For large periods of Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, Alonso was one of the villains of the afternoon, with the home crowd booing his every move.

But despite the Spurs fans trying their best to put the Chelsea players off and hand an advantage towards their own team, it didn’t work, especially during the second period.

The introduction of N’Golo Kante changed the course of the game and Chelsea ended up scoring three second-half goals, including one deflected shot from the boot of the Frenchman.

During his commentatory stint for Sky, Tyler noticed the ‘inaudible’ atmosphere inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as the home fans realised that they were heading for a defeat.

“Even the booing of Alonso has dropped,” said Tyler. “It’s inaudible now.

“The air has gone out of Tottenham’s balloon in the second period. N’Golo Kante has been responsible for it, with his arrival in the second period.”

It was all rosy for Spurs, at first, but for some strange reason, another team turned up in the second half.

Kante’s presence in the middle of the mark did change proceedings, but Nuno Espirito Santo wasn’t able to tactically change the situation in his favour.

If these Spurs players, or Nuno, continue to show these signs then it’s them who will be getting the flak from supporters, if they aren’t already.

After Tottenham’s League Cup tie against Wolves on Wednesday night, they make the short trip across the capital for another London derby.

If they can win that then it will provide Nuno and his players with the biggest lift they can get.

But if they are on the end of a defeat then it’s going to become a serious, serious problem for all involved.
