Liverpool go to Manchester United on Sunday in arguably the biggest Premier League game of the season thus far.
This is a massive fixture in the English football calendar but this time around, there’s also a fascinating subplot.
Mohamed Salah has been ridiculous for Liverpool so far this season but, by the same token, the same applies to Cristiano Ronaldo since his return to Manchester United.
Ronaldo pipped his Egyptian counterpart to Player of the Month in September.
Overall, the 36-year-old has netted six goals in nine games across all competitions, which is still six less than the Liverpool star.
There’s no debate over who’s having the better campaign so far but, inevitably, there will be comparisons between the pair in the build-up to the clash.
And although Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp played down the head-to-head statistics, he did suggest that Salah had a better left foot and that the Red Devils attacker was ‘slightly better in the air’ than the 29-year-old.
Aerially, Ronaldo has scored some of the most memorable goals in football down the years – and bagged another in the Champions League win over Atalanta in midweek.
And even some Liverpool fans have admitted that Klopp was being kind in saying that the United superstar was only ‘slightly better’ than Salah in this regard.
Here’s what they’re saying:
With United’s shaky form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Liverpool will be favourites to bring the three points back to Anfield.
But with a talent like Ronaldo in their ranks, nothing is guaranteed and as worried some of the home fans will be about Salah, the Reds’ supporters will be equally concerned about the threat that the Portuguese star brings.
