Jose Enrique has stated that if Newcastle’s takeover is completed then they must sign a ‘top manager’ to bring in the best of players, as he used Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp as an example.

The former defender shared how big-name players like Kylian Mbappe talk about Liverpool, not just because of their success, but because of their manager also, as he told Stadium Astro.

Enrique believes if the long-awaited takeover is completed on Tyneside then Newcastle must push for a manager like Mauricio Pochettino because of who he can attract to the club.

“The reality is he [Steve Bruce] has done a good job with the team he has,” Enrique told Stadium Astro. “But imagine if you sack him now and you get Mauricio Pochettino? Of course, they are not going to get a player from Man City or Liverpool, but [other top players] say ‘oh, I am going to play under Mauricio Pochettino’.

“For example, in Spain, no-one will know about him [Steve Bruce]. He has done a great job – Even Mbappe is talking about Liverpool right now. Apart from them being successful. It’s because everyone would go to Liverpool, apart from playing for an excellent team, it’s because Klopp is the manager. And everyone wants to play under Klopp right now.

“If you want to sign good players, you have to sign a top manager as well.”

From the perspective of the Newcastle fans, all they want is for the takeover to be completed then the real talk can begin.

Steve Bruce’s appointment last summer wasn’t exactly met with approval, but he has won over some sections of the St James’ Park fanbase this season.

That being said, the style of play is always a constant question under Bruce even though the team have been playing some pretty stuff since the restart – discounting their defeats to Manchester City, of course.

Nonetheless, like with every takeover, the manager in the hot seat always finds his job is one the line regardless of how well of a job he is doing.
