Manchester City are reportedly rivalling Leeds United for Daniel James.

Swansea City winger Daniel James is a well-known name around Leeds United right now, after a completely bizarre January transfer saga.

The speedy winger has impressed for Swansea this season, and Leeds made him their top January target, only to left hanging on deadline day.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported how the 21-year-old was at Elland Road in the final hours of the window to finalise his move, but Swansea failed to sign off on the move.

Leeds were left raging, and The Mirror reported that they plan to sign James in the summer, when he has just a year left on his Swansea deal – but an impressive display for Wales against Slovakia on Sunday has seemingly sparked more interest.

The Sun claim that Manchester City are now looking to swoop in and sign James, which would be devastating news to Leeds on the face of it – but could the jet-heeled winger still end up at Elland Road?

Viewed as a homegrown player for the future, James wouldn’t be challenging Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane out wide for City any time soon, and at least a year out on loan may be ideal.

One of the prime candidates would certainly be Leeds. City boss Pep Guardiola has a great, long-standing friendship with Leeds boss Bielsa, hence the reason for Jack Harrison’s loan stay at Elland Road this season.

City and Guardiola would know just how important James would be to Leeds given their January pursuit, easing any fears that he wouldn’t receive first-team football at Leeds.

A loan move to Leeds would also open the possibility for a permanent stay, so if Leeds are going to miss out on James, there may not be a better club to sign him than City, opening the door to a loan deal.
