Clinton N’Jie did not start a single Premier League game for Tottenham Hotspur – but is now showing Mauricio Pochettino just how good he can be
If there were any lingering doubts about whether or not Harry Kane belongs in that ‘world class’ bracket, Tottenham Hotspur’s red-hot number ten has confirmed his status as one of the best strikers around this season.
With eight goals in ten Premier League appearances, Kane is on track for a third straight Golden Boot. And his ratio of a goal every 108 minutes highlights just how relentless the England striker has been so far in 2017/18.
Those figures pale into insignificance compared to a player Tottenham let go for just shy of £6 million this summer, per The Standard. Clinton N’Jie has been nothing short of a revelation since making his loan spell at Marseille permanent in July after all.
And while the 24-year-old has scored three less league goals than Kane so far this season, his goals-per-minute ratio is far better.
N’Jie hits the back of the net once every 86 minutes on average – a tally only bettered in Ligue 1 by PSG’s rapier frontman Edinson Cavani and the reborn Monaco striker Radamel Falcao.
Kane has an impressive 109 league minutes per goal – some way behind his former teammate.
In total, the Cameroon speedster has scored five goals for Marseille. Oddly enough, however, he has started just six times in the league for Rudi Garcia with the similarly red-hot Lucas Ocampos fighting N’Jie for a place on the left of Marseille’s attack.
Nonetheless, it seems that escaping Spurs, where N’Jie made just eight substitute appearances in 2015/16, was the best thing that could have happened to an attacker in the form of his life.
