Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing the Rodri handball in the game between Manchester City and Everton last weekend.
The Toffees put up a valiant fight against Manchester City at the weekend, but sadly, they came away with nothing after a late Phil Foden goal consigned them to defeat.
However, it wasn’t just Foden’s goal that ruined Everton’s evening. A dodgy VAR call that has been labelled by Mark Lawrenson as the ‘worst ever’ was also to blame.
Seaman admitted, even as a Leeds fan who wanted Everton to lose, that the Merseyside club should have been given a penalty.

Seaman gave his view.
“When I was watching it I was thinking ‘please don’t give it’, obviously from a Leeds fan point of view. But when I saw it I thought it was a penalty. The only thing is, if he was wearing a long-sleeve shirt I think that gets given, but because it was a short-sleeve shirt and it hits him there, that’s the grey area between handball and the T-shirt line. If he had a long-sleeve one on, I think the referee would have given it,” Seaman said.
The ex-Arsenal man had further discussion about VAR before rounding off his point about the penalty.
“Even as a Leeds fan I must admit that it looked like a penalty,” Seaman concluded
Interesting point
We all know that a penalty should have been given at Goodison Park last weekend, but it is an interesting point that Seaman makes about this T-shirt line rule.
As the former goalkeeper speculates, a long-sleeve shirt may have changed this decision entirely, as would a shorter T-shirt.
We hate to get out tin-foil hats on, but we have to wonder how this rule affects kit manufacturers and their decisions when it comes to sleeve length, because right now, there is a slight advantage to be had by having longer than normal sleeves.
