AC Milan have reportedly entered the race to sign Sassuolo superstar Domenico Berardi, who is also wanted by Newcastle United.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian international has emerged as a target for the European titans ahead of the summer transfer window, with Berardi enjoying a fantastic season in Serie A.

The 25-year-old winger has bagged 14 goals in the Italian top-flight this campaign, more than the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane in the Premier League this season, with Berardi also claiming 14 assists.

Indeed, Berardi’s form has caught the eye of suitors ahead of the summer, with the Sassuolo star set to finally win his big move in the transfer window after remaining with his boyhood club for so long.

As per the Chronicle, Newcastle are one of the sides interested in signing Berardi, with Arsenal also long-term admirers of the attacker, though Milan’s interest could complicate matters for the Magpies.

With the Rossoneri set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season and potentially win the Serie A title, a move to Milan could be extremely tempting for Berardi despite the project Newcastle are currently building under the PIF regime.

With Milan one of the biggest clubs in Europe, let alone Italy, and potentially heading into next season as Serie A champions, it makes sense why Berardi could favour a move to Lombardy over Newcastle.

Whilst the Magpies have the finances to sign Berardi, who could cost €30m (£25m) if reports are to be believed, the sporting chance to play for Milan will likely be too great for the Italian international.
