Popular Spanish pundit Julio Maldonado has told Marca how he rates Celtic star Odsonne Edouard among the best U23 player in the world yet to reach the top.
Maldonado has covered up to eight World Cups and has worked in the media with El Dia Despues, Movistar, COPE and Marca covering world football.
In a career spanning over 30 years in football, he has seen plenty of talent.
And in a piece for Marca, Maldonado has listed his top ten U23 future superstars in the world today, listing Celtic’s Edouard in third place behind Eduardo Camavinga and Rayan Cherki.
“Edouard left the PSG youth academy and is showing a lot of level. He is 22 years old, he has 21 goals in the Scottish league, although he is not in a great league and we need to measure him in another championship. Fast, skillful, he is a modern forward. With the French sub 21 he has 11 goals in 6 games at a very good level, so he will not be ruled out for the senior side,” Maldonado explains.
Edouard is starting to gain recognition:
Borussia Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are more prominent youngsters. However, they are already at that level whereas Edouard is getting started.
Aside from his goals, the 22-year-old has posted 19 assists for Celtic this term. According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United want him with Edouard rated at £30 million.
Fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and Everton have also been linked (the Mirror).
Celtic supporters witnessed the rise of Moussa Dembele before he left for Lyon.
Former Paris Saint-German ace, Edouard, may well be even better than his French compatriot and the Bhoys will be keen to hold on to him for as long as possible.
Maldonado adds others such as Mason Greenwood and Gabriel Martinelli in his list. But with Edouard above them, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic possibly have a future superstar on their hands.
