Kevin Hatchard has claimed that West Ham United transfer target, Maxwel Cornet, would be a ‘smart’ signing for Everton, as he told talkSPORT.
The versatile forward was relegated with Burnley last season and recently-appointed Clarets boss, Vincent Kompany, has admitted that they will have to ‘prepare for life after him’.
That opens the door for Cornet to head for the exit door this summer, with both Everton and West Ham keen to add the 25-year-old to their books.

Will he join Everton or will head towards London and don Claret and Blue colours once again, but this time of West Ham’s?
Well, European expert Hatchard shared that Cornet is at a stage of his career where he needs to start to show that he can become a ‘great’ player rather than just a ‘decent’ one.
“He has been linked with numerous clubs hasn’t he,” said Hatchard. “He was linked with Fulham at one stage and with Everton.
“I think it’s a difficult one with him because he is clearly talented. We saw with Burnley what he can do. But he did have injury problems as well.
“If you go back to his time at Lille and he was brilliant in some of the games for them, especially in the Champions League, But in other games, he could be very hit and miss. We know that he’s quick.
“I think he would be a smart signing by Everton. But it’s getting towards the time in his career where we need to see him take that next step to be a great player and not a decent player. But it looks as though Everton are certainly interested.”

CORNET WOULD IMPROVE BOTH EVERTON AND WEST HAM
The Hammers would have the lure of European football if they feel the need to beat off competition for Cornet’s signature.
But Everton might be the ones to provide him with regular starts because it’s not like their team has been flying high of late compared to West Ham’s.
Andros Townsend suffered a long-term injury towards the back end of last season, whilst Richarlison has recently left the club, so that leaves Frank Lampard short in numbers in the final third.
The only issue with Cornet is that he was injury prone himself last term, so that might be a little off-putting for interested parties.
Either way, given Burnley’s relegation, it’s not like the team that signs him will secure his transfer for an inflated price because the Championship side don’t have much to stand on.
