Sid Lowe has claimed that he has the belief that ‘in the right structure and environment’ Clément Lenglet can transform at Tottenham ahead of his rumoured transfer, as he told ESPN.
The European expert admitted that Lenglet has found life tough at Barcelona, as Lowe admitted that the centre-back has been ‘accident-prone’ at the Nou Camp.
It has been recently suggested that the 27-year-old is going to travel to London to undergo his medical – if Lenglet signs, then it will be a loan deal from Barcelona.
Those in Catalonia went through a lot last season, including the now-infamous reign of Ronald Koeman and then the arrival of club legend, Xavi.
Despite that change, Lenglet still couldn’t find the right form and now there are some questioning his transfer to Spurs, but Lowe is encouraged by what he can bring to the table under Antonio Conte.
“For the last 18 months or so,” said Lowe. “He has been incredibly accident-prone. He has given away a lot of penalties and made a lot of mistakes.
“He has looked completely out of confidence in a defensive structure that’s really not working. And in an environment, and you are saying this from the outside, he just doesn’t seem to feel comfortable. He doesn’t seem to feel at home and has ended up slipping outside of the Barcelona team. To be perfectly honest, right now, he isn’t a great player.
“But the optimist in me thinks, in the right environment, with the right kind of structure and a manager that builds the defence in the right way, then this could be quite a useful signing for Spurs.
“I don’t know if they will play him in a two or a three. But if you just want a steady defender, who defends well, and you can get him physically, emotionally and psychologically right, then I think he can be a useful signing.”

Another player that Spurs fans are waiting for the club to announce is the capture of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.
This one just seems to be dragging on, recent rumours suggested the deal could be done by the weekend, but that clearly has now passed as this saga drags onto another week.
Either way, if Spurs do add Lenglet and Spence to their ranks, then that would mean that Conte has been backed with six new players in the market, and that before the players can jet-off for their pre-season tour.
It proves that Daniel Levy, who hasn’t previously been so willing to get his chequebook out, is backing the man in the dugout after he guided Spurs to Champions League football last season.
The aim for the next campaign will be to maintain that top-four spot, but can those in north London go beyond what they achieved last season?
