Tottenham Hotspur fans praised Romelu Lukaku on Twitter for sending a ‘class’ message to Christian Eriksen during Belgium’s 3-0 win against Russia at Euro 2020 on Sunday.
Given that it was only a matter of hours before the ex-Tottenham man collapsed on the field during Denmark’s clash against Finland, it would have been pretty difficult for a number of his current and ex-teammates to try to go out on that pitch and do their jobs.
And when Lukaku opened the scoring for his country, he ran towards the camera and shouted ‘Chris, Chris I love’.
Eriksen is ‘awake’ and in a ‘stable’ condition in hospital, according to a statement from the Danish FA, after collapsing during Denmark’s European Championship encounter against Finland in Copenhagen on Sunday.
The Inter Milan player needed lengthy treatment on the field and was given CPR by the medical staff before being taken to the hospital.
Tottenham fans praised Lukaku for his on-field message, as the Inter Milan player netted a brace on the night in tribute to his club teammate.
Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, who started the game, played with Eriksen at Tottenham, whilst another one of his ex-teammates, Nacer Chadli, was on the bench.
It was a pretty classy gesture from Lukaku, who would have put a smile on Eriksen’s face, no doubt, with his two goals on the night.
Eriksen would have seen first-hand at Inter at what Lukaku is capable of producing because he showcased that form again last night.
Along with Lukaku’s message to Eriksen, a selection of Spurs fans also praised Lukaku’s performance in St Petersburg.
