HITC Sport writers have compiled a list of the top 50 players at Euro 2016, assessing players from across the 24 countries taking part at this summer’s tournament.
Coming in at number 31 is Spain and Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, after a disappointing season at club level.

2015/16: Cesc Fabregas’ 2015/16 season was a campaign to forget at club level, with Chelsea mounting a woeful defence of their Premier League title.
Fabregas was one of many players to regress on the previous campaign, almost inexplicably, with his production in aiding his teammates nowhere near, even if he scored two more Premier League goals.

This has seen the Spaniard placed at number 30 on our list. A year earlier he could have expected to be within the top 20.

Scapegoat? While Fabregas’ signing and title win the previous year was fun and games for Chelsea fans at his former club Arsenal’s expense, suddenly his poor form saw him derided by sections of the fan base.
He was one of many players whose poor performances were criticised as a factor in manager Jose Mourinho’s sacking, with his Arsenal connections suddenly used to label him an outsider.

What can we expect? Fabregas will be hoping to end his season on a high, with Spain looking to put right their disappointing World Cup defence.
He can expect to play a prominent role throughout the tournament, but his place in the starting XI is not guaranteed, with competition in midfield from Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, and Koke among others.
Fabregas though is a player of proven quality to who Spain will look on as a dependable player. He needs to prove that this is still the case, and there is no better stage than the European Championships for him to do this.
One interesting game to watch is a clash against Czech Republic where he will come up against ex-Blues teammate Petr Cech.
