Eunan O’Kane is still awaiting his first goal for Leeds United, but has suggested that he may be about to receive more opportunities.

Leeds United ace Eunan O’Kane has told BBC Radio Leeds that fans can expect to see a different side to him in the coming months following the revival of his partnership with Liam Bridcutt.

Garry Monk has had four holding midfielders to pick from this season, with O’Kane and Bridcutt also vying for places with Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips.

And with injuries forcing Monk to frequently rotate, O’Kane has only started alongside the Whites skipper on a handful of occasions since the start of the season, and has instead, often featured with one of the younger members of the squad.

But with his partnership with Bridcutt now back together, and thus, giving him more freedom to venture forward, O’Kane – who is still awaiting his first goal – suggested that he will now look to find the back of the net on a more regular basis.

“I don’t think Leeds fans have seen very much of that with me, purely for the fact that the manager wanted me to be really responsible while Liam was out of the team,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“Since I’ve come back, there’s been a little bit more freedom given to me to get up the pitch and that’s something that I want to improve on.

“It’s been a while since I’ve scored a goal, which I used to do quite regularly so it is something I’m trying to improve, to get better at, and hopefully you’ll see more of it as the weeks go on.”

Having a greater number of options who can make an impact in the final third would be a major boost to the Leeds squad ahead of what could be a massive few months for the club.

Chris Wood has shouldered the majority of the goalscoring burden – he is the Leeds only player to reach double figures in the Championship this term – so O’Kane chipping in with some goals of his own would surely only strengthen their promotion chances.
