Eunan O’Kane has revealed to The Yorkshire Evening Post what Leeds United head coach Garry Monk told him when he joined the club.

O’Kane moved to Championship side Leeds from Premier League outfit Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international midfielder has disclosed what Monk told him following his switch to the West Yorkshire club on transfer deadline day.

“The manager told me he had some really good young players with exceptional potential and he needed me to be a bit of experience for them,” O’Kane told The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He didn’t want them to think I was coming in here to kick them out. He wanted me to put my arm round them, be a bit like a big brother and help them learn from me. I hope they will.”

O’Kane is a very good midfielder, and his experience of having played in the Championship is going to be useful for Leeds this season.

The former Torquay United man also has the experience of winning promotion to the Premier League with Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old, though, will have to work hard to earn a place in the Leeds starting lineup, as midfield is an area where the Whites have enough players.

Leeds are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season, but the Whites have made a disappointing start to the season.

The West Yorkshire outfit will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Huddersfield Town at Elland Road in the Championship.
